1 inch X 1 inch Diptyic Grid Drawing
1 inch X 1 inch Diptyic Grid Drawing
These drawing were my first exploration into my technique of using a mig welder as drawing tool. The paper used was waxed Masa Paper. Masa Paper is a Japanese synthetic printing paper. I fabricated a wooded frame that was placed down on the paper and remained there while the piece was welded. This created a perfectly white border similar to printmaking techniques. The border provides some order to the chaotic mark making, as well as a bumper wall that creates wonderful astroid-like trails. I constructed several different grid sizes starting with 1/2 inch X 1/2 inch all the way to a 1 foot square. The marks are dramatically different as the grid gets bigger. The paper is layered to create more space and depth of field. I present these drawing both as layered diptychs, and traditional side by side orientation. The layered pieces measure 21 inches X 31 inches, and the side by side are 42 inches X 31 inches. Framing is required for these works.
